Then you take out short-term travel insurance for 5 days. When you return after 5 days, your travel insurance will stop. You only have to pay the premium once.

The continuous insurance

Do you go on holiday more than twice a year? Then we advise you to take out a continuous travel insurance. You are then insured worldwide throughout the year. You do not have to take out travel insurance separately each time. Please note, because your continuous travel insurance is automatically extended.

What does travel insurance cover?

You have taken out travel insurance or are thinking about doing so. But what does such insurance actually cover?

When you take out travel insurance with standard or basic cover, you receive emergency assistance while travelling. For example, search and rescue, transport by ambulance to the hospital or other necessary medical care. If you have to go home early – also known as repatriation – you will also be reimbursed with the basic cover.

It is also possible to take out additional cover. The choice for additional coverage depends on your personal preference, other insurance policies you may have already taken out and the type of trip you plan to make. It is advisable to always call the emergency center of the travel insurer in case of (emergency) situations. This way you avoid high costs and disappointments if the costs are not reimbursed.

Is travel insurance mandatory?

Taking out travel insurance is not mandatory , but it is certainly not superfluous. The main reason is the help with any emergencies on vacation. Unforeseen situations often cost not only a lot of time, but also a lot of money. Do you need a rescue helicopter to the nearest hospital? This quickly adds up to thousands of euros! But also situations where you are not in immediate emergency, can lead to unpleasant situations if you have not taken out travel insurance. Don’t want to worry about anything on the road? Wat is een reisverzekering? 

In 2020 gingen er in totaal 28,7 miljoen Nederlanders op vakantie. Voor veel mensen is een reisverzekering afsluiten een logische stap. Wanneer je een reisverzekering afsluit, ga je goed verzekerd en zonder zorgen weg. Er zijn twee verschillende reisverzekeringen: een kortlopende- en doorlopende verzekering.

De kortlopende verzekering

Wanneer je niet vaker dan één of twee keer in het jaar op vakantie gaat, dan is de beste keuze een kortlopende reisverzekering. Ga je bijvoorbeeld 5 dagen op vakantie? Dan sluit je voor 5 dagen een kortlopende reisverzekering af. Wanneer je na 5 dagen terugkomt, stopt je reisverzekering. Je hoeft dan ook maar eenmalig de premiebetaling te voldoen. 

De doorlopende verzekering

Ga je meer dan twee keer in het jaar op vakantie? Dan adviseren wij je om een doorlopende reisverzekering af te sluiten. Je bent dan het gehele jaar wereldwijd verzekerd. Je hoeft dan niet elke keer apart een reisverzekering af te sluiten. Let wel op, want je doorlopende reisverzekering wordt automatisch verlengd. 

Wat dekt een reisverzekering?

Je hebt een reisverzekering afgesloten of denkt erover na om dit te gaan doen. Maar wat dekt zo’n verzekering eigenlijk?

Wanneer je een reisverzekering met een standaard- of basisdekking afsluit, krijg je noodhulp op reis. Denk aan bijvoorbeeld opsporings- en reddingsacties, vervoer met de ambulance naar het ziekenhuis of andere noodzakelijke medische zorg. Wanneer je vervroegd naar huis moet – ook wel repatriëring genoemd – krijg je dit bij de basisdekking ook vergoed. 

Het is ook mogelijk om andere dekkingen aanvullend af te sluiten. De keuze voor extra dekkingen hangt af van je persoonlijke voorkeur, andere verzekeringen die je eventueel al hebt afgesloten en het soort reis dat je van plan bent om te gaan maken. Advies is om bij (nood)situaties altijd de alarmcentrale te bellen van de reisverzekeraar. Zo voorkom je hoge kosten en teleurstellingen, mochten de kosten toch niet worden vergoed. 

Is een reisverzekering verplicht?

Afsluiten van een reisverzekering is niet verplicht, maar ook zeker niet overbodig. De belangrijkste reden is de hulp bij eventuele noodsituaties op vakantie. Vaak kosten onvoorziene situaties naast veel tijd, ook veel geld. Heb je een reddingshelikopter nodig naar het dichtstbijzijnde ziekenhuis? Dit loopt al snel in de duizenden euro’s op! Maar ook situaties waarbij je niet direct in nood verkeert, kunnen leiden tot vervelende situaties wanneer je geen reisverzekering hebt afgesloten. Wil je je onderweg nergens zorgen over hoeven maken? Sluit dan gewoon een reisverzekering af voor een zorgeloze duurzame vakantie!

2. Don’t hinder other surfers

Leren surfen in Nederland: 4 belangrijke regels voor beginners

1. Basisregel veiligheid

De belangrijkste regel wanneer je gaat leren surfen in Nederland is dat er slechts één surfer een golf mag nemen. Deze basisregel is belangrijk om zo botsingen met anderen en de daarbij komende blessures te vermijden. De surfer die als eerst op de golf zit, heeft voorrang. Zit de surfer nog niet op de golf? Dan krijgt degene die het meest aan de binnenkant surft, voorrang. Hoe je weet wie het meest aan de binnenkant surft? Dit is degene die het dichtst bij de schuimkop surft. 

2. Hinder geen andere surfers 

De tweede belangrijke regel wanneer je wilt leren surfen, is dat je geen andere surfers mag hinderen. Afgeleid van de basisregel dat slechts één surfer een golf mag nemen, is het belangrijk om de surfer te vermijden die op een golf zit. Waarom je de surfer moet vermijden? Wanneer je dit niet doet, is er de kans dat hij of zij je moet proberen te ontwijken en er ongelukken kunnen ontstaan. Paddel dus snel een andere kant op en richt je surfboard naar de horizon om te voorkomen dat je wordt meegesleurd door de golf.

3. Ga niet surfen waar gezwommen wordt 

Deze regel lijkt behoorlijk vanzelfsprekend, maar toch gaat het hierbij nog vaak mis. Elke zomer zijn botsingen tussen surfers en zwemmers werkelijkheid. Een belangrijke regel bij surfen leren in Nederland, is dat je niet mag surfen waar gezwommen wordt. Voor de veiligheid van zowel de zwemmers als de surfers, is het verboden om binnen een zogenoemde zwemzone te surfen. Doe je dit wel? Dan kan je een boete ontvangen. In Scheveningen denkt de gemeente na over het invoeren van zones voor zwemmers, surfers en watersporters. 

4. Ga niet tegen de stroming in 

Tot slot is het belangrijk wanneer je wilt leren surfen, om niet te vechten tegen de stroming. Naast dat dit zonde is het van je energie, is dit ook gevaarlijk. Voel je dat de stroming je wil meetrekken? Dan ben je waarschijnlijk beland in een mui. Dit is een diep stuk zee waar een sterke stroming staat die je meesleept de zee in. Laat je dan ook meenemen door deze stroming. Paddel of zwem vervolgens naar links of rechts en beweeg zo via de zandbanken richting de kust. Belangrijk is dat je niet te vermoeid de surfplank op stapt. Dit kan gevaarlijk zijn! Kijk voordat je de zee in gaat ook goed waar de muien zich bevinden. Je herkent een mui aan het ontbreken van stukslaande golven. Worstel je dus door het witte schuim heen om de sterke stromingen te vermijden!

Het eten van minder vlees is dus goed voor het milieu. Deze goede voornemens waarmaken, is tegenwoordig heel eenvoudig dankzij de vele vleesvervangers in de supermarkten!

3. Vraag en/of geef geen cadeaus voor verjaardagen 

Spullen kopen heeft een negatieve impact voor het milieu. Elk product heeft namelijk grondstoffen nodig. Het produceren van grondstoffen gaat vaak gepaard met negatieve effecten op het milieu, bijvoorbeeld vervuiling. Ga in plaats daarvan bijvoorbeeld een activiteit doen samen, koop artikelen bij de kringloop of zoek eens naar een circulair product! 

4. Verleng de levensduur van je kleren 

Voor productie van bijvoorbeeld textiel is er veel water nodig. De productie plus het transport van kleding, zorgt jaarlijks ongeveer voor 320 kg aan CO2 uitstoot per persoon in Nederland. Wanneer je de levensduur van je kleding verlengt, hoeft er minder geproduceerd te worden. Breng een bezoekje aan een tweedehands kledingwinkel, verkoop je kleding op een tweedehands platform zoals Marktplaats en Vinted of geef je kleding weg aan familie, kennis of vrienden!

In the Netherlands we have 5 different airports. These are Schiphol Airport, Eindhoven Airport, Groningen-Eelde Airport, Maastricht Aachen Airport and Rotterdam – The Hague airport. Schiphol is one of the busiest airports in the EU and continues to grow. No less than 88% of air traffic in the Netherlands takes place at Schiphol.

It is known that flying is one of the most environmentally harmful modes of transport. Do you want to know why flying is so bad for the environment? In this blog you can read about the impact air traffic has on the environment, how thinking differently and COVID-19 are related and how you can minimize your impact as much as possible if you decide to fly anyway.

How polluting is aviation?

Aviation has a huge impact on the environment. To achieve the climate goals, it is important to travel without flying. Aviation is the most climate-intensive mode of transport. Seven percent of the total Dutch climate impact is caused by aviation . Due to the growth in the number of flights, this percentage will only increase.

Due to its central location, Schiphol is a transfer port between Europe and the rest of the world. There is often landing and take off here. As a result, there is an extra large amount of CO2 and particulate matter emissions above the Netherlands. Particulate matter are the soot particles that we inhale without noticing. These soot particles damage the lungs and can even cause asthma.

The ultra-fine particles are even more dangerous to other internal parts of humans. These ultrafine particles reach the bloodstream via the lungs. Here they can cause serious diseases such as asthma, cardiovascular disease, (lung) cancer and brain damage. Traveling without flying ensures that particulate matter emissions and ultra-fine particles do not end up in the air.

Travel without flying, behavioral change and COVID-19

The Netherlands wants to be climate neutral by 2050. If we look at the current aviation policy, this is impossible. Every day, around 950 flights still take off from Schiphol Airport. Traveling without flying is one of the most important behavioral changes to tackle the climate problem. We have to do things differently. Traveling in a different way, working in a different way and on holiday in a different way.

COVID-19 has brought the world to a standstill everywhere. We were forced to think differently. As a result, the use of fossil fuels decreased in the first months and with it CO2 emissions. Figures showed that in these months energy consumption and CO2 emissions from the transport sector fell dramatically as a result of the general advice to work from home.

Still flying?

If you do decide not to travel without flying, here are some tips to reduce the environmental impact of flying:

• Opt for a direct flight whenever possible . More CO2 is released during ascent and descent. So book a flight without stopovers. This reduces the environmental impact and noise pollution.

• Focus on the purpose of your holiday . Would you like a sun holiday? Then choose, for example, the Canary Islands instead of Thailand. If you choose to go to the Canary Islands with 4 people, you will emit 7,500 kg less CO2 than the trip to Thailand.

• It is preferable not to travel by car but take public transport to the airport . This way you not only emit less CO2, but you also save a lot of parking money!

• Offset your CO2 emissions . How this works There are organizations that arrange climate compensation for you. These organizations serve as a kind of middlemen. They ensure that your money ends up with organizations that plant forests, protect important natural areas or lead renewable energy projects.

In Nederland kennen we 5 verschillende luchthavens. Dit zijn Schiphol Airport, Eindhoven Airport, Groningen-Eelde Airport, Maastricht Aachen Airport en Rotterdam – The Hague airport. Schiphol is één van de drukste vliegvelden in de EU en blijft maar groeien. Maar liefst 88% van het vliegverkeer in Nederland vindt plaats op Schiphol. 

Bekend is dat vliegen één van de meest milieubelastende manieren van transport is. Wil je weten waarom vliegen zo slecht is voor het milieu? In deze blog lees je welke invloed vliegverkeer heeft op het milieu, hoe anders denken en COVID-19 met elkaar te maken hebben en hoe je je impact zoveel mogelijk minimaliseert als je toch besluit te vliegen.

Hoe vervuilend is de luchtvaart? 

De luchtvaart heeft een enorme impact op het milieu. Om de klimaatdoelstellingen te halen, is het belangrijk om te reizen zonder vliegen. De luchtvaart is namelijk de meest klimaatintensieve manier van transport. Zeven procent van de totale Nederlandse klimaatimpact wordt veroorzaakt door de luchtvaart. Door de groei van het aantal vluchten zal dit percentage alleen nog maar stijgen. 

Schiphol is door de centrale ligging een transferhaven tussen Europa en de rest van de wereld. Er wordt hier dan ook vaak geland en opgestegen. Dit heeft als gevolg dat er extra veel CO2- en fijnstofuitstoot boven Nederland is. Fijnstof zijn de roetdeeltjes die we door middel van inademen binnenkrijgen zonder dat we dit merken. Deze roetdeeltjes zorgen voor schade aan de longen en kunnen zelfs astma veroorzaken. 

De ultrafijne deeltjes zijn zelfs nog gevaarlijker voor andere inwendige delen van de mens. Via de longen bereiken deze ultrafijne deeltjes de bloedbaan. Hier kunnen ze ernstige ziektes zoals astma, hart- en vaatziekten, (long)kanker en hersenschade veroorzaken. Reizen zonder vliegen zorgt ervoor dat de fijnstofuitstoot en de ultrafijne deeltjes niet in de lucht terecht komen. 

Reizen zonder vliegen, gedragsverandering en COVID-19

In 2050 wil Nederland klimaatneutraal zijn. Als we kijken naar het huidige luchtvaartbeleid is dit onmogelijk. Dagelijks stijgen er namelijk nog steeds zo’n 950 vluchten op vanaf Schiphol Airport. Reizen zonder vliegen is één van de belangrijkste gedragsveranderingen om het klimaatprobleem aan te pakken. We moeten dingen anders gaan doen. Op een andere manier reizen, op een andere manier werken en op een andere manier op vakantie. 

Dankzij COVID-19 werd de wereld overal tot stilstand gebracht. We werden verplicht om anders te denken. Daarmee daalde in de eerste maanden het gebruik van fossiele brandstoffen en daarmee ook de CO2-uitstoot. Uit cijfers bleek dat in deze maanden het energieverbruik en de CO2-uitstoot door de vervoerssector drastisch daalden als gevolg van het algemene advies om thuis te werken.

Toch vliegen? 

Wanneer je toch besluit om niet mee te gaan in reizen zonder vliegen geven we je hier tips om de milieubelasting van het vliegen te verminderen:

• Kies wanneer mogelijk voor een directe vlucht. Bij het opstijgen en dalen komt er namelijk meer CO2 vrij. Boek dus een vlucht zonder tussenlandingen. Dit zorgt voor minder milieubelasting en geluidsoverlast. 

• Stel het doel van je vakantie centraal. Wil je graag een zonvakantie? Kies dan voor bijvoorbeeld de Canarische eilanden in plaats van Thailand. Wanneer je met 4 personen ervoor kiest om naar de Canarische eilanden te gaan stoot je 7.500kg minder CO2 uit dan de reis naar Thailand. 

• Reis per voorkeur niet met de auto maar pak het openbaar vervoer naar het vliegveld. Zo stoot je niet alleen minder CO2 uit, maar bespaar je ook nog eens een hoop parkeergeld! 

• Compenseer je CO2-uitstoot. Hoe dit werkt? Er zijn organisaties die klimaatcompensatie voor je regelen. Deze organisaties dienen als een soort tussenhandelaren. Zij zorgen ervoor dat jouw geld terecht komt bij organisaties die bossen aanplanten, belangrijke natuurgebieden beschermen of hernieuwbare energie projecten leiden.
