The most famous cities in Overijssel are Zwolle, Deventer and Enschede. The province is also known for its extensive nature. Not to be missed when visiting are the two national parks, where you will find yourself completely in an oasis of peace. Do you prefer to be active in the city? The province
The province of Overijssel consists of three regions: Salland, Twente and Land van Vollenhove. The province is known for its many cycling paths and extensive landscape in which a lot of water can be found.
In Overijssel you will find two national parks: National Park Sallandse Heuvelrug and National Park Weerribben-Wieden. The parks are known for their beautiful nature and give you the feeling of being somewhere completely different.
In the Sallandse Heuvelrug you are immediately inspired by the purple glow that seems to hang all around you. Once the heather is in bloom, it’s hard not to keep staring at the environment around you. In this national park you will not only find unique plant species, but also rare birds and animals. The perfect time to visit the park is before dawn. It may be difficult to resist your warm bed, but misty mornings with the sunrise are really worth it.
In the Weerriben-Wieden National Park you will find yourself in a green oasis surrounded by water. Did you hit it with a blue sky? Then the perfect picture is complete. You can explore the labyrinth of lakes, ponds and swamp forests with a boat, canoe or sup board. Bring a picnic basket to spend the day on the water or stop for a full lunch along the way.

Heksenkaas also comes from Overijssel. In this dip you will find a mix of parsley, garlic and leek. The head office of this company has remained with its roots and can still be found in Oldenzaal. The nicest thing? Heksenkaas has now also released a vegan variant, so completely sustainable!
Do you prefer sweet? Then you can try the Zwolle balls during your overnight stay in Overijssel in the city of Zwolle. These balls are an Old Dutch delicacy, which have been made in Zwolle since the middle of the 19th century.
